Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) by – Dr. Pramanik Namrata
Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray machine used in situations where regular dental or facial x rays are not sufficient. It is not used routinely as radiation exposure from this scanner is significantly more than regular dental x rays. This scanner uses technology to generate 3-dimensional images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve path and bone in craniofacial region in a single scan. These images allow for more precise treatment planning.
CBCT scans are used for treatment planning of orthodontic issues, surgical planning for impacted teeth, diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorders, for accurate placement of implants, evaluation of jaw, sinuses, nerve canals, and nasal cavity, detecting and treating jaw tumors, determining bone structure and tooth orientation, reconstructive surgery, cephalometric analysis.
