The damp and filthy conditions in monsoon plays a host for many diseases causing germs, which cause some health attacks like dengue, malaria, typhoid, viral fever, pneumonia, gastrointestinal disturbances, diarrhea, and dysentery. Here immunity plays an important role. To protect yourself from such infections some dietary countermeasures have be taken
1) Eat fruits as they help you restore energy. Seasonal fruits are best option instead of non seasonal fruits as there is a chances of worm infestation is more in non seasonal fruits Apples, mangoes, pomegranates, and pears are best suggestible.
2) Foods such as brown rice, oats, and barley are the best foods one could have in this monsoon.
3) Add lots of antioxidants in the form of onion, garlic, ginger in your diet.
4) Add yougurt, curd, buttermilk instead of milk to make gut flora healthy.
5) Include methi seeds, turmeric & herbs to prevent infections.
6) Include monounsaturated fatty acids & polyunsaturated fatty acids instead of saturated fats. MUFA act as an anti inflammatory. Protect from infections walnut, almond flaxseeds are the best options.
7) Drink lots of herbal teas, especially those with antibacterial properties. These include ginger, pepper, honey, mint and basil leaves.
8) Steamed salad is best option to avoid bacterial infections instead of raw salad.
9) Have lots of soups & salads with immune boosting foods e.g. cardamom cinnamon, bell pepper, cumin seed powder.
10) Avoid oily spicy food it trigger the skin infections.
11) Avoid openly placed food, fried items, pre- cut fruits and juices from road side vendors.
12) Always wash vegetables well and keep them clean especially if you are planning to taken them raw.
13) Avoid green leafy vegetables due to dampness they are more susceptible to germs.
14) Avoid sea food as monsoon is the breeding, time for fish & prawn. If necessary to eat, consume fresh with extra care of cooking.
