Oral Candidiasis
Also known as thrush, it is a fungal infection of the mouth. A white rash that is like cottage cheese in appearance appears in oral candidiasis. It can occur on the tongue,inner cheek , roof of mouth,gums, tonsils or back of the throat.certain amounts of the candida fungus remain in harmony with other bacteria in the body, but when their balance is upset due to various reasons, a fungal infection occurs. Oral thrush can be caused by wrongly fitting dentures,certain illnesses(hiv, uncontrolled diabetes,cancer, etc),smokers,certain medications that cause drying of the mouth,hormonal changes during pregnancy.Oral thrush can spread to other parts of the body if not taken care; like the lungs,skin,liver.
Treatment involves-anti fungal medications, maintaining oral hygiene and quitting habits like smoking.
